Lost Tribe of the Sith
by John Jackson Miller

REVIEW BY JASON HAMILTON

MY RATING: 8

#1: Precipice

Precipice is well written. It starts with a bang, creates tension, escalates, and leaves the reader interested and wanting more. The characters are easy to invest in and genuinely likable. This strength is also a problem, however. This is supposed to be about a lost tribe of Sith, not angels. These are supposed to be the bad guys. Therefore, they have to be easy to invest in, but not necessarily likable. Because of the brevity required for the story, it also feels rushed, moving instantly from one problem to the next. But overall, it was enjoyable and left me wanting more.

The story takes place on or around the end of The Golden Age of the Sith comic collection. This is confirmed with references to Naga Sadow sending them off on a mission to prepare for the coming battle with the republic.

#2: Skyborn

The best part about Skyborn is the new character, Adari. You can tell by the way her thought process is written, who she is. The way in which she goes up against the traditional beliefs of her people is also well played. It makes it seem like an alien version of our own dark ages. The Sith also seem more appropriately sinister. This is a slight change from what it was like in the first short story, so there was an unexpected and unnecessary shift in character.

Skyborn takes place during and immediately after Precipice from the point of view of Adari.

#3: Paragon

This short starts out slow but ends with mounting tension, and a twist ending that we haven't seen in the previous two. Once again, the characters do not seem to fit themselves. They seem good, yet they do bad things, they are Sith. But, like the first two, the plot moves quickly and a lot happens in a short space. This makes it seem rushed, but also fast paced.

Paragon takes place fifteen years after the events of Skyborn which would also place it after The Fall of the Sith comic collection. The Sith have fallen elsewhere, and this is truly an isolated lost tribe of the Sith.

#4: Savior

This short story is a little different from the others that have preceded it. For one, it takes the form of multiple viewpoints, whereas the previous shorts used one viewpoint only. This brings a sense of urgency, activity, and a build up to the stories climax. Although this is not the last story in the Lost Tribe of the Sith it does have a sense of finality to it. It is the end of this story within the story, like the end of a chapter. Apart from a view moments that seemed confusing, it was well written and engaging.

Savior takes place twenty-five years after the events of the first story in the Lost Tribe of the Sith epic, ten years after the preview installment Paragon
